All Around Me, La Francophonie!

New England’s Franco-Americans

Presenter: Eileen Angelini, Ph.D.

Beginning with selections from Ben Levine's documentary Réveil: Waking Up French (for which Dr. Angelini wrote the teacher's guide) that deal with attacks by the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) on Franco-American communities in the Northeast and continuing with Charles Larroque's Gumb-Oh là là series, Dr. Angelini will explore the rich history of New England's Franco-Americans. The historical overview will include connections to Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Louisiana as well as her experiences of growing up as a Franco-American / Italian-American in Leominster, MA.
