Supporting Local World Language Organizations
At AATF of CNY, we are proud to support local world language organizations such as Language Educators of Central New York (LECNY) and New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYSAFLT). These organizations play a crucial role in promoting language learning and cultural awareness in our community.
Language Educators of Central New York (LECNY)
LECNY is a professional organization made up of language teachers from Pre-K to 16, administrators, and post-secondary students within the seven New York counties of Cayuga, Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego. LECNY strives to fulfill several initiatives, including:
Promoting the study of languages and cultures as outlined in state and national standards.
Serving all areas of language study, including classics, heritage languages, English to speakers of other languages, bilingual education, Native American languages, and American Sign Language.
Establishing constructive relationships with other professional organizations.
Providing Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) pursuant to state regulations.
New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers (NYSAFLT)
Founded in 1917, NYSAFLT represents world language educators from all regions of New York and surrounding states. Its purpose is to serve the needs of the profession dedicated to the development of world language skills and cultural awareness among students2. NYSAFLT offers its members:
A network of communication with colleagues throughout the state.
Opportunities for professional growth through conferences, workshops, and institutes.
Advocacy efforts among the members of the Board of Regents and state legislators.
Support services designed to enrich teachers' professional lives.
Scholarships and grants for teachers and students.
By supporting LECNY and NYSAFLT, we aim to foster a vibrant and supportive environment for language educators and learners.
Together, we can continue to promote the importance of language education and cultural exchange in our community.
